Girls starting with 10┬╡g of ethinyl-oestradiol per day may have their dose increased to 20┬╡g and up to 30┬╡g per day for the first twenty-one days of the month over several years. After breakthrough bleeding occurs, medroxyprogesterone acetate is added in a dose of 10mg per day, given on days twelve through twenty-one of the month. In this way, a normal menstrual period is simulated by the administration of exogenous hormones.
